MiaRose
Mia Rose (born 26 January 1987 in Wimbledon Village, London) is the stage name of Maria Antónia Sampaio Rosa, an English/Portuguese singer-songwriter who achieved fame within the popular video sharing website YouTube, where she quickly rose to the top of the most-viewed rankings and became the most-subscribed musician ever. With over 200,201 subscribers as of July 9, 2009, Mia Rose is in the all-time top 5 of subscribed musicians on YouTube. She has been the feature of articles in Rolling Stone, The Sun, and The Age, (also published in the Sydney Morning Herald) as well as the subject of a BBC Radio 5 Live podcast.
On 4 April 2007, Ryan Leslie signed Mia to his NextSelection label. She has released two singles, “Hold Me Now” and “Hot Boy,” neither of which charted on Billboard.
Mia Rose modeled for an agency called “Young Faces of London” before leaving Britain for Portugal. After modeling she started uploading youtube videos.
On December 29, 2006 Mia rose created a youtube account under the name “Miaarose”, and started uploading videos while studying at the University of Buckingham. In little under three weeks she got over 30,000 subscribers.
Alexa Baracaia of the Evening Standard reported on January 30, 2007, that her Youtube page was attracting over 3 million viewers a month, but that there were allegations of “fake comments” being posted to inflate her appeal. In February 2007, the Sydney Morning Herald reported that she had acquired over 200,000 viewer subsciptions on Youtube within the first 3 weeks of her online debut, making her the “Most Subscribed (YouTube) Musician of all Time”. In March 2008, Forbes announced her being among the nominees for the 2008 Youtube Video Awards.
Since September 2008, Mia is no longer with Nextselection. Nextselection wanted her to record music sounding more hip-hop, and she declined. Since Mia has left Nextselection she has signed a new contract with Portugal record “Cherry Entertainment”.
