Pure Digital 120 Minute Flip Video Ultra
In my opinion, Flip is one of the cheapest camera in the market. This is an excellent camcorder for a novice, or someone who just wants an easy to use camcorder that is small and compact. I personally don’t need more than 2 hours recording time and it’s wonderful not having to purchase tapes.”
The price is actually less than many digital cameras. I’ve wanted to own a camcorder for a long time, and the Flip Ultra has finally met my standards for: quality, value, and ease of use.
Canon HG20 Camcorder
This camera is perfect for everyday recording. The HD picture quality is fantastic, and it’s very easy to use. I have been searching for a camera for a long time, and this is the only one that has everything I was looking for. The 60 GB internal drive was really what sold it. I never have to worry about SD cards. The only flaw to this camera is the low battery life. But you can get larger battery from canon with a much longer life.
Computer connection is quick and easy. I have seen reviews by people complaining about it not being compatible with Mac or Final Cut Pro. I am a big editor on Final Cut, and this camera IS compatible with my mac and Final Cut. The files on the video camera are .MTS files because they’re HD. All you have to do in Final Cut Pro is use ‘Log and Transfer’ to upload your clips for editing. Of course the HD fottage takes up a lot of space, but it’s worth it for the beautiful crisp picture quality!
Creative Technology Vado HD 8 GB HDD Camcorder
My favorite thing about it is the weight. It’s so light and smooth that it’s easy to slip into a pocket. I have a much nicer Lumix DMC-ZS3, but the Vado has become my preferred grab-and-go camera when I’m not bringing my purse.
The controls are very simple, just power, a bit of basic operation and playback, and button to select between stills and movies. The record button is prominent, as should be, but the other controls are simple touch pads, with no tactile feedback. This makes for a nice smooth feel and easy operation, but it also means it’s easy to mistakenly zoom (digital only) or adjust the brightness when all you’re doing is trying to hold the camera. The power button can be briefly tapped to lock the touch controls, which is a good idea.
The image quality is decent, as far as something with such a tiny lens can be expected to produce. I found the Vado to be at its best indoors, with moving subjects and the camera kept stationary. In low light, the Vado did surprisingly well – yes, the image got a big splotchy, but overall the movie was quite nice.
Samsung SC-MX20 Flash Memory Camcorder BLK
I now love this camcorder, its light, easy to use and the video after being converted on my computer with the right software makes the quality wide screen and crystal clear. First the software that comes with it is called Cyberlink Mediashow and it seems pretty sweet but it won’t allow a 16:9 aspect ratio even when selected. I went through Samsung’s tech support through their level 2 guys who were stumped and I found free software at download.com, “Free Video Converter v 1.3 which updates automatically after installing to v1.4″ and by selecting avi with Xvid 624×352 with 16:9, I got wide screen and great quality, I could have chosen up to 1920×1080 but on my 43″ plasma 624×352 is sweet. I’ve got my 8 and 11 year olds using this camera like pro’s and the videos are worth much more than the camera cost.
